About the Race

The run starts in Borgarnes. From there the route crosses the Borgarfjörður Bridge and then up towards the mountain. The route to the summit follows a marked hiking path. After 7.9 km the runners reach the top (791 m above sea level). From there the route goes to the nearest summit Gildalshnjúkur (844 m) and then to the other five peaks of the Hafnarfjall mountains, i.e., Miðtindur, Klausturtunguhóll, Katlaþúfu, Þverfell and Tungukollur (663 m). At the top of Tungukollur (12.7 km) the runners turn around and soon after that they turn left down the slopes of Tungukollur down to Tungudalur valley. At the bottom of the slopes, there is a refreshment station (14 km). There, runners take a sharp left turn and run down the valley, towards an old gravel road (16.3 km). After 18.8 km, there is a sharp turn to the right onto the original route, all the way to the finish line in Borgarnes. Parts of the route are highly technical and not suitable for people afraid of hights.
