Based in Rotorua, the Geothermal, Cultural and Adventure mecca of Aotearoa New Zealand, the Legend of the Peaks festival provides running and walking events for all levels of fitness with distances starting from 2kms for kids to the pinnacle event, the New Zealand Forest Marathon covering 42kms of off-road and trail running.
This challenge will test avid road runners with its mixed surfaces and undulating terrain and push seasoned off-road athletes to chase down the clock and each other with a max slope rating of approximately 50%. This is also an excellent build up for the Tarawera 50km Ultra event.
21kms through the Whakarewarewa Forest summiting the Peaks of Kohaturoa-Pohaturoa and Titokorangi and includes a climb on to the slopes of Moerangi hill. This event provides a challenge for avid runners and an opportunity to gain experience in long distance off-road running for those new to the sport.
