About the Race

The course starts from the main street of Queenstown. Mt Owen towers directly above. You head straight out of town to the good stuff. Gorgeous ferny gullies and waterfalls. You pass over town’s water supply reservoir dam before connecting into the MTB tracks up Little Owen. This is the main spur that connects Queenstown to Mount Owen. You get epic views of the amphitheatre of Mt Owen, and over to classic tourist lookout of Horsetail Falls, and the infamous “Gormie Hill” — the winding Lyell Highway that weaves its way down the valley and through the man-made moonscape landscape to Queenstown. Out at Iron Blow lookout, you then turn around and head back down the groomed MTB tracks and enjoy the views out to the Queenstown airfield and Queenstown itself. It’s then over the Miners Siding — a large sculpture that tells the story of Queenstown's rich mining history — and over the finish line. This is a much friendlier version of the skyruns, without having to get right up in the exposed and technical alpine. But you've still got some decent elevation and it’ll provide some good burn in the legs.
