From its early days with just a small group of runners to now one of the largest ultra-marathon field in Ireland, the Mourne Way Ultra is just EPIC. You will start with a group of likeminded athletes in a journey across the Mournes and be joined along the way by 100s more as the other events fill the course. Pack Collection and Start The event area, parking, pack collection and start line will be clearly signposted on your arrival to Kilbroney park. The event pack collection will take place from 5:30-5:45am on 8th June. The event briefing will take place at 5:55am with the starting gun at 6am sharp. There will be no early starts allowed. The Route of the Ultra Trail 84km is 2 laps of the traditional Marathon Course in an out and back format. The first ½ is the reverse of the marathon course before turning and returning along the same route. En-route you will encounter rocks, mud, sand, gravel, grass and everything in-between. Food and water stations will be spread evenly across the course between 7-10k apart. in addition to this you will have the opportunity to leave a drop bag at registration that will be transported to the turn at 42km. your drop bag will then be taken back to the finish line for you. From 6am the following Support Stations are at the following distances and locations. 1 – 10km Leitrim Lodge. Self Service water station 2 – 15km Hen Mountain Track. Food, Water Medical 3 – 19km Spelga Dam. Food, Water and medical 4 – 27km Trassey Track. Food, water and medical 5 – 36km Shepherds Lodge. Food Water and medical 6 – 42km Turn. Drop bags There is no water/feed station here. 7 – 49km Shepherds Lodge Food, Water and medical 8 – 58km Trassey Track. Food, water and medical 9 – 66km Spelga Dam. Food, water and medical 10 – 70km Hen Muntain Track. Food Water Medical 11 – 75km Leitrim Lodge. Food, water and medical 12 – 79km Near Yellow water . Food, water and medical Finding your way As with all the categories the Ultra Trail 84km will be fully way marked. While being able to navigate isn’t completely necessary we encourage everyone to take time to study the course, train on it if possible, carry a map and know how to use it. We encourage the use of GPS and other mapping software such as viewranger. GPX files will be available prior to the event. We will do everything in our power to ensure your kept on track but in the end its your responsibility to follow our guidance and physical markers on the course. Safety and medical We will have a dedicated mountain Check Point Crew located along the course at strategic points. We will monitor and record both your progress and your physical and mental state. If you require medical attention we will task one of our private paramedics to your location if appropriate. Our team will be there if you need them. Cut offs 14 hours to complete The first cut off is the start of the marathon at 42km at 12pm. All Ultra-Trail 84km competitors must have arrived and started their return by 12pm. Anyone not making this cut will DNF and transport onward will be arranged.. the 2nd cut will be at the start of the ½ marathon at 4pm. The 3rd cut will be the start of the 10km race at 74km with the final cut being the finish line at 8pm. The cut off times are strict. Summary: 1st Cut off – 42km 12pm 6 hours into the race 2nd Cut off – 63km 4pm 10 hours into race 3rd Cut off – 74km 6pm 12 hours into race Finish line Cut off – 84km 8pm 14 hours into race At the end of the race you will be welcomed by 100s of fellow runners, spectators, your support crew and the 26 extreme crew that have been with you for the duration of the event. You’ll get a beer or two from Mourne Mountain Brewery, a bite to eat a medal and a t-shirt to wear with pride remember your efforts on the day. We will also have a medical crew and massage team to care for any injuries you’ve picked up along the way.
