因感動於山區兒童每天步行數公里上學，一群熱心義工於2000年首辦挑戰12小時越野馬拉松，由於反應熱烈，同年再度舉行活動，自此成為本港其中一個大型越野跑賽事，為以改善困境兒童的教育及弱勢社群的生活籌募善款。

Inspired by children in mountainous regions walking miles to school daily, volunteers initiated a 12-hour cross-country marathon in 2000. The event, held annually since, has become a significant fundraiser for education and support of disadvantaged children and communities in Hong Kong.
