Sustainability In Trail Running

As part of ITRA's commitment to eco-responsibility, we launched the Green Charter survey to gather insights from our global community on sustainability in trail running. We are thrilled to share that we received an overwhelming response, with over 5000 participants from more than 130 countries contributing their valuable opinions.

Our survey aimed to understand what trail runners perceive as the biggest environmental impacts on the sport and how the sustainability of an event influences their decision to participate. The key findings highlight the community's deep concern for preserving natural landscapes and the importance they place on eco-friendly practices within the sport.

Key takeaways:

- Runners are actively searching for more environmentally-led races, with 53% of runners happy to pay a higher fee for a more sustainable race.

- Runners consider the waste created during events to have the biggest impact on the environment, but in reality, the biggest impact is from the transport that runners use to get to races.

Moving Forward:

These insights will guide ITRA in shaping future initiatives and collaborations aimed at enhancing the sustainability of trail running events worldwide. By prioritizing eco-responsibility, we can ensure that trail running continues to thrive while preserving the natural environments that make the sport so special.

We invite you to explore the detailed findings and learn more about how we plan to implement these insights into actionable steps for a greener future in trail running. Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey and contributed to this important dialogue.
