*  Equity

Is in the search for a just balance, based on impartiality and equal opportunity from which each runner should benefit.

The trail-running races are open to all runners. The regulations are conceived so that they apply equally to all concerned. All athletes are subject to the same conditions and they have the same rights and same duties. The measures taken to welcome the top athletes must on no account hamper the participation of the other runners.

It is the responsibility of the organisers to guarantee this principle of equity, to carry out the necessary checks and to offer all the participants the best race conditions possible.

Quality

Before you start on the steep paths of a race in which you want to participate, check the Quality Index awarded by the runners! Because quality often rhymes with experience, ITRA provides runners with a scoring system to quickly identify the level of organization of the races.

Why evaluate the quality of a race?

Several trail races are created every year, and the discipline is making new followers around the world. Rough course, race in autonomy or semi-autonomy, changing weather ... each race is an adventure with variable geometry! Knowing the quality of organization of a trail before participating is an essential parameter to prepare well for the events you want to participate. Therefore, the ITRA Quality Committee provides runners and organizers with a Quality of Races Index. This index considers the general level of organization of the race before, during and after the event.

A Race Quality Index based on the runner experience

After each trail, the runners can note the general level of organization of the race in which they participated.
ITRA invites them to answer a quick, simple and anonymous quality questionnaire:

  • 15 questions to evaluate the quality of the race organization
  • 1 final Quality Index, published on the ITRA website
  • More detailed access for ITRA member organizers

Average rating out of a 5 scale

The Quality of Races Index is an average score out of 5, calculated for each race on the ITRA calendar. This average is obtained thanks to the responses of the runners who participated in the race and filled in the quality questionnaire.

  • 5 stars Organization of excellent quality
  • 4 stars Organization of very good quality, which can be further improved
  • 3 stars Organization of good quality, some points need improvement
  • 2 stars Organization of average quality, essential points are to be reviewed
  • 1 star Organization of poor quality, which may endanger the participants.

Each of the 15 points covered in the quality questionnaire is weighted by a more or less important coefficient. For example, questions about participant safety have a higher coefficient than event animation questions. This makes it possible to prioritize the prevention and safety measures implemented by the organizer.

By consulting the Quality Index of your next race, you make sure to make the start knowingly!
